Ilya Umanskiy is an investigations and risk management specialist with more than two decades of experience advising corporations, financial institutions, government agencies, investors, and high-net-worth individuals on fraud, financial crime, security, and operational risk. 

As Partner at Sphere State Group, he leads multidisciplinary teams across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, helping clients navigate complex challenges including ransomware, digital asset crime, reputational threats, and business-critical incidents. 

Having begun his career designing security risk management and due diligence programmes in the private sector, Ilya has led assignments spanning cross-border investigations, critical infrastructure security, executive protection, market-entry strategy, and major incident response. Since relocatingto Asia in 2012, he has advised multinational organisations, private investors, and government agencies across sectors including financial services, technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, and digital assets. 

Today, Ilya focuses on helping organisations manage emerging threats at the intersection of financial crime, technology, and global business operations. A recognised voice in the industry, he regularly contributes commentary on investigations, operational resilience, and digital assets, and has also lectured at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. He is fluent in English and Russian.
